Why is each pair of Emma earrings different?
Flame glass paste casting is a craft gesture: the molten material reacts with slight variations depending on the temperature, the artisan's hand, and the glass itself. These micro variations in shade and texture are the hallmark of handmade work. At Françoise Montague, we consider them the signature of the gesture: two pairs of Emma will never be perfectly identical. This is precisely what distinguishes a handcrafted piece from mass production.
Are the Emma suitable for daily wear or are they reserved for special occasions?
The Emma Earrings are designed for daily wear as well as special occasions. Their dimensions (4.2 x 2.5 cm) and controlled weight (5.8 g) allow for comfortable continuous wear. The lever-back clasp is designed for absolute security. In crystal or soft colors, they fit perfectly into everyday life. In deep blue, red, or topaz, they elevate an evening outfit. The eight colors allow everyone to find their version.
Can Emma be given as a gift for an occasion from abroad?
Yes. Each pair is delivered in a signature Françoise Montague case, hand-sealed with our wax seal, turning the purchase into a ceremonial object even before it is opened. Shipping is available internationally with prices including taxes and customs duties (DDP) to the United States and Gulf countries. The tax refund service is offered in-store at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré for customers visiting Paris.
Can the Emma earrings be passed down from generation to generation?
Yes. The Emma pieces are designed with the same durability standards as all Françoise Montague creations: "To wear. To keep. To pass on." Properly cared for, the glass paste retains its shine over the very long term. The gold-plated copper frame withstands everyday wear. At Françoise Montague, each piece is repaired in the Paris workshop if necessary.
What is pâte de verre, and why does Maison Françoise Montague use it?
Glass paste is an ancient artisanal technique that involves melting glass and then pouring it with a flame directly into a metal setting. At Françoise Montague, this material is at the heart of the expertise passed down since 1945: it is the glass paste that gives the jewelry its depth of color and unique light, impossible to reproduce with industrial techniques. The setting is made of copper, the only metal resistant enough to the heat of pouring, plated with fine 24-carat gold by a specialist Parisian goldsmith.

Exceptional expertise

In Françoise Montague's creations, the glass is melted at over 800°C with a flame. Our artisans fuse colored glass rods onto a copper framework, shaped by hand.

Small bubbles, slight asymmetries, and veins caused by the torch smoke reveal the handcrafting process. A perfectly smooth and symmetrical piece betrays industrial production.

Since 1945

The house of Françoise Montague was founded in 1945, heir to a Parisian jewelry workshop passed down by her mother. Françoise's style quickly became distinctive and recognizable: enameled and iridescent glass beads, unique craftsmanship, and boundless creativity. Within a few years, the house made a name for itself among lovers of characterful jewelry, staying true to a standard that has never wavered.

In 1978, a new chapter began. At just twenty-one years old, Marion Stern took the reins with the ambition to take the house even further. A visionary, she explored new territories and forged connections beyond borders: as early as 1981, Françoise Montague’s creations reached Asia, the Middle East, and the West. In 1998, she took a decisive step by opening the boutique at 231 rue Saint-Honoré, in the heart of Paris’s fashion and luxury district.

Today, the story continues. In June 2023, I joined the adventure in turn. My name is Rebecca Mamou-Stern, and with my engineer’s perspective and all the expertise passed down before me, I bring this house to life, between heritage and modernity. Every creation that leaves the workshop extends this story and writes it a little further.
