Why is each pair of Emma earrings different?
Flame casting of glass paste is a handcrafted gesture: the molten material reacts with slight variations depending on the temperature, the artisan's hand, and the glass itself. These micro variations in shade and texture are the mark of handmade work. At Françoise Montague, we consider them the signature of the gesture: two pairs of Emma will never be perfectly identical. This is precisely what distinguishes a handcrafted piece from mass production.
Are the Emma suitable for daily wear or are they reserved for special occasions?
The Emma Earrings are designed for daily wear as well as special occasions. Their dimensions (4.2 x 2.5 cm) and controlled weight (5.8 g) allow for comfortable continuous wear. The lever-back clasp is designed for absolute security. In crystal or soft colors, they fit perfectly into everyday life. In deep blue, red, or topaz, they elevate an evening outfit. The eight colors allow everyone to find their version.
Can Emma be given as a gift for an occasion from abroad?
Yes. Each pair is delivered in a signature Françoise Montague case, hand-sealed with our wax seal, turning the purchase into a ceremonial object even before it is opened. Shipping is guaranteed internationally with prices including taxes and customs duties (DDP) to the United States and Gulf countries. The tax refund service is offered in-store at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré for customers visiting Paris.
Can the Emma earrings be passed down from generation to generation?
Yes. The Emma are designed with the same durability standards as all Françoise Montague creations: "To wear. To keep. To pass on." The glass paste, properly maintained, retains its shine over the very long term. The gold-plated copper frame resists everyday wear. At Françoise Montague, each piece is repaired within the Parisian workshop if necessary.
What is pâte de verre, and why does Maison Françoise Montague use it?
Glass paste is an ancient artisanal technique that involves melting glass and then casting it with a flame directly into a metal setting. At Françoise Montague, this material is at the heart of the expertise passed down since 1945: it is the glass paste that gives the jewelry its depth of color and its unique light, impossible to reproduce with industrial techniques. The setting is made of copper, the only metal resistant enough to the heat of casting, plated with fine 24-carat gold by a Parisian goldsmith specialist.

A unique knowledge since 1945

Our story begins in 1935, with a small jewelry workshop founded by Françoise Montague's mother. Ten years later, in 1945, the brand took the name it is known by today. Very quickly, its style stood out: enameled and iridescent glass beads, unique craftsmanship, and limitless creativity.

Then in 1978, a new chapter, a new breath. At just 21 years old, Marion Stern took the reins with the desire to make the house shine even further. A visionary, she explored new horizons and from 1981, Françoise Montague creations flew to Asia, the East, and the West. In 1998, she opened the boutique at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré!

And today? The story continues! In June 2023, I joined the adventure in turn. My name is Rebecca Mamou-Stern and with my engineer’s perspective and all the know-how passed down before me, I bring this beautiful house to life, between heritage and modernity.
