Vintage Jewelry from the 1940s-1950s
The 1940s and 1950s were the era when couture jewelry reinvented itself. The post-war shortage forced houses to explore new languages in gold-plated metal, fine stones, rhinestones, and glass paste. It was the golden age of Parisian creative jewelry.
The New Look and its sets
With Christian Dior’s New Look in 1947, jewelry became a major ornament again. Long necklaces, sets, sculpted brooches: the pieces complemented the rediscovered silhouette. The Maison Françoise Montague was born in the same decade, in 1945, driven by a free-spirited woman.
The aesthetic codes of the time
Bold yellow gold, floral motifs, matching sets (necklace + earrings + bracelet), contained but assertive volumes. Precious stones often gave way to rhinestones and glass paste, technically perfect and conceptually free.
