Glass paste cannot be reproduced. It is cast over a flame in molds patiently made by hand. Each piece is born only once and carries within it the subtle variations of the gesture that gave it shape. This living, irregular, luminous material is what Maison Françoise Montague has worked with since 1945.

A Material, a Heritage

Glass paste is one of the most demanding techniques in Parisian couture jewelry. It was the language of the great houses, from Chanel to Patou and Schiaparelli to Lanvin, at a time when statement jewelry was sculpted in the workshop like a piece of fine metalwork. We perpetuate this tradition on Rue Saint-Honoré.

The Workshop’s Craft

Glass melted at over 800 degrees, cast into gilded metal, then cooled slowly to reveal its color. Each cabochon takes hours to come into being, and every variation becomes a signature. This is why no Françoise Montague glass paste piece is identical to another.

For Those Who Recognize Fine Materials

You will wear glass paste as you would an archival piece: with the awareness that the material came before you and will outlive you. Our discerning clients, those who travel between Paris, New York, and Riyadh, gradually assemble a wardrobe of glass paste pieces to pass down. Each acquisition is presented in our box sealed with the Maison’s wax seal, ready to become a gift or part of a trousseau.
