What is glass paste in a Françoise Montague piece of jewelry?
Pâte de verre is a material derived from traditional craftsmanship, distinct from blown or industrially molded glass. It is obtained by melting glass at very high temperatures, poured directly by flame into the metal setting by an artisan. This technique produces cabochons whose color, transparency, and slight surface variations are unique to each piece: no Mansart is exactly identical to another. Pâte de verre is poured into a setting made of copper gilded with 24-carat fine gold: copper is the reference metal for this craft because it withstands the high pouring temperatures without deforming. This technique, preserved in our workshop at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré since 1945, is one of the rarest skills in French haute couture jewelry.
Is the Mansart clip clasp comfortable for wearing all day?
Yes. The Mansart clip clasp is hand-adjusted in our workshop at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré, set for a secure hold without compressing the earlobe. The Mansart earrings weigh 12 g each, a lightness that allows comfortable wear all day, including on non-pierced ears that are less tolerant of heavy pieces. For particularly sensitive ears, the clip adjustment can be fine-tuned during a private appointment at the boutique. The Mansart earrings are suitable for all ears, pierced or not, which is one of the reasons they are often chosen as a first Françoise Montague piece or as a gift for those who have never had their ears pierced.
How to choose among the five colors of the Mansart Earrings?
Each color of the Mansart has a distinct personality. The smoked (iridescent anthracite gray glass paste) is the most sculptural version, with a depth that changes depending on the light, ideal with neutral or dark tones. The sapphire blue (intense transparent) is the light version, perfect on white or black. The emerald green is a bold chromatic statement, worn alone. The honey shade plays the golden warmth, ideal in summer or for a ceremony. The plum is the evening version, with a presence that needs no other jewelry. If you hesitate between two colors, a private appointment at the boutique at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré allows you to try them on before choosing.
Does Françoise Montague offer tax-free shopping, and can Mansart be shipped internationally?
Yes. The tax refund service is offered in-store at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré, Paris 1st arrondissement, for any customer residing outside the European Union, including customers from the United States, Gulf countries, and Eastern Europe staying in Paris. International shipments are handled DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to the United States and Gulf countries: taxes and customs duties are included in the price, with no surprise fees upon receipt. For the European Union, prices include all taxes. Delivery is provided by DHL Express (24 hours within mainland France, 2 to 5 days internationally depending on the destination). Each pair is presented in its signature case, sealed with our wax seal, ready to gift or keep.
Is the Mansart baroque pearl a real pearl, and why is it not perfectly round?
The Mansart Boucles pearl is a high-fashion nacreous pearl, a glass pearl coated with nacre, distinct from a cultured pearl or a synthetic plastic pearl. Its baroque shape, meaning slightly irregular, is not a flaw: it is the characteristic of any pearl that has not been industrially standardized. In the tradition of French high-fashion jewelry, the baroque pearl is a sign of authenticity and character, whereas a perfectly round pearl often indicates mechanized production. Each Mansart baroque pearl is individually selected in our workshop for its surface and nacre qualities, then hand-mounted as part of the setting. As with real pearls, avoid any direct contact with perfume on the pearl.

Unique expertise since 1945

Our story begins in 1935, with a small jewelry workshop founded by Françoise Montague's mother. Ten years later, in 1945, the brand took the name it is known by today. Very quickly, its style stood out: enameled and iridescent glass beads, unique craftsmanship, and limitless creativity.

Then in 1978, a new chapter, a fresh breath. At just 21 years old, Marion Stern took the reins with the desire to make the house shine even further. A visionary, she explored new horizons and from 1981, Françoise Montague creations flew to Asia, the East, and the West. In 1998, she opened the boutique at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré!

And today? The story continues! In June 2023, I joined the adventure in turn. My name is Rebecca Mamou-Stern and with my engineer’s perspective and all the know-how passed down before me, I bring this beautiful house to life, between heritage and modernity.
