What are the Chevalier Earrings by Françoise Montague?
The Chevalier Earrings are handcrafted glass paste drop earrings from the Maison Françoise Montague, founded in 1945 in Paris. The glass is hand-poured in a lagoon blue streaked with gold leaf flakes on a 24-carat fine gold-plated brass setting. Each pair is made in small series in the Parisian workshop. They form a complete set with the Chevalier Necklace.
What is the glass paste used in Chevalier Earrings?
Glass paste is a handcrafted technique in which molten glass material is poured by hand. In the Chevalier Earrings, this process traps flakes of gold leaf in an intense mineral lagoon blue. The slight variations in shade and the differently distributed gold flakes from one pair to another are the authentic marks of handmade work: no pair is exactly identical to another. This expertise has been passed down in the House since 1945.
Are Chevalier Earrings suitable for non-pierced ears?
Yes. The Chevalier Earrings are equipped with an adjustable clip clasp, designed for all ears, pierced or not. It supports the weight of the piece (26 g per earring, about 6.8 cm in length) without pinching the earlobe. The adjustable clip is one of the legacies of Parisian couture tradition: it allows you to wear a bold piece comfortably, from cocktail parties to dinners.
Can a complete set be made with the Chevalier Earrings?
Yes. The Chevalier Earrings were designed as a set with the Chevalier Necklace, available on francoisemontague.com. The matching of the two pieces, with the same lagoon blue glass paste, the same gold leaf, and the same fine gold-plated setting, creates a statement set in the spirit of grand couture jewelry. A private appointment at the workshop at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré can be arranged to discover the complete set in the boutique’s lighting.
Does Françoise Montague offer tax-free shopping and international shipping for Chevalier Earrings?
Yes. Tax refund is applied in-store at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré for any customer residing outside the European Union. Shipping to the United States and Gulf countries is handled DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): taxes and customs duties are included in the displayed price, with no surprises upon delivery. For the European Union, prices include all taxes. Each pair is delivered in its case, hand-sealed with the wax seal bearing the House's coat of arms.

Unique expertise since 1945

Our story begins in 1935, with a small jewelry workshop founded by Françoise Montague’s mother. Ten years later, in 1945, the brand took the name it is known by today. Very quickly, its style stood out: enameled and iridescent glass beads, unique craftsmanship, and limitless creativity.

Then in 1978, a new chapter, a fresh breath. At just 21 years old, Marion Stern took the reins with the desire to make the house shine even further. A visionary, she explored new horizons and by 1981, Françoise Montague’s creations were flying to Asia, the East, and the West. In 1998, she opened the boutique at 231 Rue Saint-Honoré!

And today? The story continues! In June 2023, I joined the adventure in turn. My name is Rebecca Mamou-Stern, and with my engineer’s perspective and all the expertise passed down before me, I bring this beautiful house to life, between heritage and modernity.
